Maxine's Graduation Events

Maxine's mother called me for Maxine's hair and makeup for both her elementary school graduation as well as a dance she was having the following week as part of the graduation celebrations. Laura did Maxine's hair and I did her makeup for both events. We loved Maxine! She is such a sweet girl and she was so fun to chat with. We actually loved her whole family as they're such nice, good people. By the way, Maxine is also SUPER smart and got a scholarship to a fancy school in NYC for next year. Congratulations Maxine!

For Maxine's makeup we did partial services the first time for graduation (just eyes) and then full services for the dance (face too) without fake lashes. Can you see the difference? 💗

Airbrush for Patricia's Engagement Party 💍

Patricia originally found me on Wedding Wire and we chatted through there. But then, her sister recommended she reach out to someone who did a friend's wedding 5 years ago. That someone ended up being me, too, lol! So I suppose we were meant to meet!

I airbrushed Patricia, her mother, and her sister for Patricia's engagement party at Pompeii Restaurant. She and her sister had gotten airbrush before, but they were apprehensive because they said it made them look very pale. If you've also had this experience, it's likely the makeup artist you used may have used a color that didn't match your skin tone. Or, used a reflective powder over it. They were so happy with the airbrush results. I loved meeting all 3 of them, they were so hospitable and sweet! Congratulations, Patricia! 💍

Stephanie M's Wedding Day

It was such a pleasure doing Stephanie's makeup for her big day. I met Stephanie at my friend Corinne's bachelorette party (she's her aunt). Stephanie and her sisters were a blast to hang out with at the party and we had a lot of fun together. After I did Corinne's makeup for her wedding, Stephanie reached out and asked if I would do her makeup for her wedding as well. I was honored! I had a lovely time in the morning hanging out with her, her daughters (who I also adore), her niece Jessica, and her cute dogs. I was so happy to do Jessica's makeup again! She is such a total sweetheart and really cool to talk to and spend time with.  Congratulations Stephanie! I hope you're enjoying your honeymoon (super jealous bc she's on a beach right now!) ☀️🌊

Katie's Bridal Shower

On Sunday we dolled Katie up for her bridal shower. One of RWAG's freelance hairstylists, Christina, curled Katie's pretty blonde hair down into beautiful waves. For makeup, Katie wanted flawless skin and for her eyes to pop without the look seeming super dramatic. Katie was so cool to hang out with. Both Christina and I loved working with her. Congratulations Katie!

Your First Dance... Take Lessons or Wing it?💃🏻

So you're thinking about your first dance. You both know basically how to dance, well how to sway back and forth. But maybe you fear that it'll get boring for 4 minutes doing the ole back and forth sway. So you're thinking of taking dance lessons.

My husband (fiancé at the time) and I decided last minute to take dance lessons. AKA I decided to take dance lessons and realized last minute that I wanted to do it. Our wedding song (I Choose You by Sara Bareilles) is not exactly a slow song. It has a beat that is difficult to dance to. So off to the dance studio we went.

Yeah... about that...

Yeah... about that...

The instructor was nice, she was young and adorable. We decided to learn a choreographed dance for our song. So she taught us some basic dance steps, which I thought I'd be amazing at. WRONG. Of course, my husband was really great at it and I kept stumbling over my feet. Or forgetting what to do. Or counting to 10 when the counts were supposed to go to 6. Whoops.

Although I was embarrassed to not be great at something, I was determined to practice and become really good at it. I'm also super competitive. Upon our second dance class I got better, still not amazing (or good), but hey, practice helps. I would ask my husband to go over the steps with me at home. I really wanted to get better and rock it!

Well we were a few days away from our third dance lesson (and only a month away from the wedding) and the studio called us saying our instructor was "sick until further notice" (um... Ok?) and we could start over with someone else. Who could take us only at like 11 at night. Wanting to dance really beautifully for our first dance, I considered it. But the thought of starting a new routine just weeks before our wedding just added to our stress. We decided not to continue and decided just to wing it at the wedding. I am a bit of a "planner" (see: control freak), but my stress level for the wedding was already at a high and I didn't want to add to it. So we wung it. (Is "wung" a word??)

In the end I'm glad we did our own thing. I thought swaying back and forth would be awkward and boring for 4 minutes. But I realized, who the hell cares? If people are bored, oh well! Too bad for them. I looked into my husband's eyes and we smiled, laughed, joked, hugged, kissed, and just enjoyed dancing together. It was very romantic and beautiful for us, and that's all that mattered. Instead of counting steps I was having fun and living in the moment.

I don't have my professional pictures back yet but here's a cute picture that one of our friends took of our first dance.

Hey, if you have plenty of time to learn a dance then that's great! I'm not saying to avoid it at all costs. It just didn't work for us, and if you find that it doesn't work for you that's OK too. If you can practice it so much that you don't have to think about it, then totally go for it. But it's not necessary. Just have fun and enjoy the moment. It's ok to be silly, it's ok for people to be bored. Just have the best time and enjoy your first dance as husband and wife 😍

#tbt Jenny & Anthony's Wedding

Happy anniversary to our best friends Jenny and Anthony! Today is the actual anniversary of their wedding 4 years ago!

I did Jenny's makeup for her wedding as well as most of her bridesmaids that day, many of whom are my friends too. It was such a great day and I was so happy doing Jenny's makeup because I got to spend some special time with her on one of the most important days of her life.

Jenny is a beautiful person inside and out and one of the kindest people you'll ever meet. She also laughs at my jokes, even when I'm not funny and always makes me smile. Anthony is hilarious, has a great heart, is so fun, and is always the life of the party. We had an amazing time at their wedding at the North Ritz Club and Jenny looked so beautiful. Her Ines Di Santo dress from Bridal Reflections (where Jenny works) was AMAZE. Love you Jenny and Anthony! Happy Anniversary!

Here is an amazing recap video their videographer did for them if you'd like to check it out! It's so beautiful I love it. Happy anniversary!

Stephanie's Wedding at Carlyle on the Green

Stephanie was one of the sweetest brides I’ve ever worked with. She had such a great energy (even at our start time at 5AM!) that was contagiously calming. All morning she was incredibly easy going, and when I asked how that was possible she said “there’s nothing I can do about anything today. Whatever is going to happen will happen, so why spend time worrying about it?”

She laughed about the fact that she hung out with the bridal party the night before at the beach for a relaxing get together before the wedding, only to tell me they got swarmed by mosquitos and she had bites all over her legs and arms. When I responded with an immediate OMG, she laughed and said “what can you do, it’ll be a funny memory someday”. Then she started telling me that even some of the groomsmen received different colored tuxes from each other. When I looked concerned and asked her what she was going to do, she calmly told me that it was ok and there was no use in her getting all worked up and upset when she couldn’t do anything about it. Being a bit of a control freak, I was shocked yet inspired about her attitude. Not many people can laugh off things that go “wrong” on their wedding day. But Stephanie could, and did! She had a great attitude, and I loved doing her makeup for the wedding. She, along with her mother and 6 bridesmaids were all incredibly down to earth and total sweethearts. My sister (who was assisting that day) and I felt like we made friends that day.

Lots of love and happiness to Stephanie and her husband!

New obsession for (easily) organizing pics online!

I kind of don't get the cloud.

I get it, but I don't get it. You get me? I do know that my iPhone cloud storage was used up 58 weeks ago, as I get notified daily. Welp.

Am I also the only one who has a bad habit of racking up 1600+ pictures then never deleting them until I get a new phone or until my phone literally won’t take any more pictures until I delete some? But what happens to those photos?

I end up transferring the pics over to my computer and they sit there forever because I don't feel like going through them and deciding which to keep and which to delete. I have organizational commitment issues (see: lazy).

So the pictures sit on my computer in random unorganized folders and take up space. I have a bunch of my pics backed up on thumb drives and my external hard drive but I barely see these photos. Then I kind of forget about them. When I’m trying to find a fun photo for #tbt, it’s just too much effort to go on my computer, search through pics, ugh… I’m tired thinking about it.

Basically, I don’t want to make too much effort when it comes to saving my pictures and I want to access any of them whenever I want without taking up too much space. If I’m telling a friend, for example, “remember that time you spray tanned and were WAY tan?!” ahem Lauren… lol. I want to be able to pull up that picture quickly so we can both have a laugh.

If you’re a bride-to-be reading this, you’ll probably find yourself searching for pictures of you and your family, fiance, and bridal party throughout the process. I know from experience this can be a pain and extremely time consuming. If only I knew about this during that time, it would have saved a lot of time and I probably would have found way better pictures than I did!

Google Photos. Ugh… I’m just going to say it and you don’t have to say it back... but I love you.

Trust me, go to the app store and download it ASAP!

Some features I love about Google Photos:

Facial Recognition

What I love about this feature is that it automatically stores people’s faces. So, if for example, you’re looking for pictures of you and your fiance for photos to display for your engagement party, bridal shower, or wedding then all you have to do is click on his face and it’ll show you ALL the pictures you have of him. It sounds stalkery since it literally shows a face of anyone and everyone who’s ever been in your pictures but it’s really cool and useful. I wish I had this tool when searching endlessly for pictures of the 12 people that were in our wedding party. It's also comical because sometimes the person's display photo is a very old photo or a super random awkward photo... see "George" (my husband) in mine. That picture is from when he was in like 8th grade LOL.

Date Tool

It’s great that you can simply type a date, month, year, or a combination of all of them into the search bar and it’ll bring up the results instantly. So if I wanted to search what I did for my birthday last year, but I’m not sure what day we went out but I know it was in November, I’d simply type “November 2014” into the search bar. Then it would pull up all pictures dated in Nov 2014 for me to scroll through.

That's right, we rented out the karaoke spot!

It Automatically Creates Collages, GIFs, Etc.

I love the suggestiveness of this tool. It gives you cool ideas and examples of pictures you can put together for albums, shared albums, movies, stories, animations (like gifs), and collages. I recently found you can make your own now too and add/ remove pics from the movies they automatically create for you. I think you can only make your own collages and animations in the phone app though. Still very cool.

I also like it because it puts together pictures from a long time ago, so it’s nice to see throwbacks. It’s like a #ThrowbackThursday every day!

Desktop Uploader

There is a separate uploader that quickly and easily uploads all your pictures and movies for your computer. I didn’t realize at first, and I was manually uploading all my pics one folder at a time. But it is super fast, runs on its own, and you don't have to manually upload each folder (like I did). Click here for the link for your computer (not phone).

Search Suggestions

Google photos automatically groups certain categories together such as people (which I spoke about in #1), places, and things.

Shows simply where the photo was taken. This came in handy when we were on our Honeymoon in Europe and later looked at the picture and couldn’t remember exactly what area we were in.

Google Photos groups similar photos into categories, such as weddings, animals, dancing, food, selfies etc. It’s pretty cool!

Easy Sharing with Friends and Family (only if you want)

I love that you can easily share entire albums or select photos with people. My friend took 350 pictures at my wedding and many of them came out awesome. She put them on Facebook but it was a pain to go through each one and save one at a time. Through Google Photos, she pressed “share” and shared the album only to me, and I got the entire thing immediately without having to go through all the pictures individually. I love that!

This is an important feature for me. I only share a small amount of my photos on Facebook. I’m a fairly private person and don’t like to share everything. On Google photos, NO one can see the thousands of pictures I’ve uploaded. If I share an album or a few photos with someone, that’s all they have access too. I really love that it’s private.

Unlimited Storage

This is not easy to find nowadays. You get unlimited storage for “high quality pictures at a reduced file size”. This is a good option for photos taken on your cell phone. BUT if you want to save hi-res photos (umm let’s just say special photos taken with a nice camera) then you can also temporarily change the settings to “original full resolution” and THEN upload them after the settings were changed. Don’t forget to change it back after. You only get about 12 GB of storage for hi-res photos (which is a lot, but still) and you don’t want to waste it on iPhone photos.

Clearly I'm a Bit Obsessed

But I love my photo memories and I like that I can easily organize, preserve, and access them at anytime. I swear I don’t work for Google, lol, although that would be awesome since they have a nap room for employees which is my dream (pun not intended!) I just think it’s an awesome, helpful, addicting photo organizer. Download, enjoy, and thank me later!
